About Us
East Granby started their Farmers Market in the summer of 2011. There was a buzz in town over the past few years which generated a group of interested citizens who wanted to get this story started. An East Granby farmer offered information on current state and health requirements, a businessman was pleased to offer his parking lot for the market site and some area residents who attended the first meeting formed a committee and members were assigned tasks. The enthusiasm was contagious. Local farmers who heard about it from others and read about it in the papers, helped a business savvy team open the first market on July 6th, 2011 with 15 vendors who displayed their goods under their tents and enjoyed close to 300 patrons. Proceeds generated from booth fees were donated to the East Granby town's library.
We wanted not only to bring local farmers to the public but we hoped this would bring business to the local farms and to East Granby businesses. We watched how the market not only became a place to purchase dairy, produce, baked goods, meats, pottery, jewelry and flowers; we also saw how the market brought our community together. It became a town meeting place with goods and entertainment; each market week had a personality of its own. The committee will always have a wonderful memory of bringing people together our first year under those white tents with the help of our generous local sponsors!
